Whiteout Survival: Walis Bokan Guide [2026]

Last Updated: April 16, 2026
Published: April 16, 20269 min read

Overview

Walis Bokan is a Generation 1 Epic-class Lancer hero with a Combat subclass. His in-game lore describes him as "a fierce warrior and native of Emerald Valley, a temperate oasis with an inexplicably lush environment nestled within glacial surroundings." He is one of the most widely used hunting heroes in the early game, and remains relevant for dedicated hunting lineups well into mid-game.

His kit divides cleanly across two roles: a short-burst debuffer and Attack buffer during Exploration, and a Hunting March Speed specialist during Expedition. Understanding which mode you are building for determines how you allocate both shards and Skill Manuals.

Bottom line: Walis Bokan has one exceptional skill — Huntsman's Gift — and his entire build should be oriented around it. Outside of hunting, his value is limited and declines sharply once Generation 2 and higher heroes become available on your server.

How to Get Walis Bokan

Free unlock: Walis Bokan is obtainable for free once you reach Furnace Level 4 and unlock Hero Hall and Exploration mode. For most players, this makes him one of the first heroes available.

Additional shard sources:

  • Hero Recruitment
  • Epic Recruitment
  • Home and Beyond pack
  • General Epic Hero Shards

His shards have a narrower acquisition path than open-pool Epic heroes. Walis Bokan's specific shards are tied primarily to recruitment keys and the Home and Beyond pack. General Epic Hero Shards can also be applied to him, which broadens his upgrade path compared to heroes locked to character-specific shards only.

Skills

Walis Bokan has five skills — three Exploration skills and two Expedition skills.

Bear Hunt note: Huntsman's Gift has been confirmed to apply to Bear Hunt rally joiner marches following a game update in early 2026. If you experience inconsistency, verify against your current client version.

Max Stats

The following are Walis Bokan's confirmed maximum stats. Exploration stats are active in Exploration modes; Expedition troop buffs apply during Expedition marches.

Stat Value

Skill Upgrade Priority

Skill Manuals are a scarce resource. Prioritise based on your primary use case.

Hunting build (recommended for most players)

Upgrade Expedition skills first. Walis Bokan's hunting value is entirely driven by Huntsman's Gift; Tactical Deception provides defensive support on marches.

Recommended Expedition skill upgrade order:

From To
Star Level: 0 Star Level: 1
Huntsman's Gift: 1 Huntsman's Gift: 2
Tactical Deception: 1 Tactical Deception: 2
Star Level: 1 Star Level: 2
Huntsman's Gift: 2 Huntsman's Gift: 3
Star Level: 2 Star Level: 3
Huntsman's Gift: 3 Huntsman's Gift: 4
Tactical Deception: 2 Tactical Deception: 3
Star Level: 3 Star Level: 4
Huntsman's Gift: 4 Huntsman's Gift: 5

Echoing Boost: 1 Echoing Boost: 2
Earthshake: 1 Earthshake: 2
Star Level: 1 Star Level: 2
Echoing Boost: 2 Echoing Boost: 3
Jungle-Born Agility: 1 Jungle-Born Agility: 2

Echoing Boost: 4 Echoing Boost: 5
Jungle-Born Agility: 4 Jungle-Born Agility: 5
Earthshake: 4 Earthshake: 5

Star Level upgrades require shards and can be completed independently of skill level — advance Star Level as soon as you have the shards, regardless of where you are in the skill order.

Gear

Walis Bokan is an Epic hero and can equip up to 4 pieces of Hero Gear. Hero Gear unlocks at Furnace Level 15.

As a Lancer Combat hero, prioritise gear that improves:

  • Hero Attack and Hero Health
  • Escort Attack and Health
  • Lancer Lethality

The highest-priority gear pieces are Goggles and Boots, which provide the best return for a Lancer hero and produce a balanced build that improves both his personal combat performance and troop durability.

Where He Fits: Use Cases

Beast Hunting and Polar Terror Hunting Walis Bokan's primary role. At max level, Huntsman's Gift doubles your Hunting March Speed, significantly compressing the time between hunts. This effect compounds over hundreds of marches per day and is the main reason to build and maintain him.

Pairing with Gina Both Walis Bokan and Gina provide Hunting March Speed buffs that stack with each other. Running them together is the standard recommendation for any player prioritising hunting efficiency. This pairing holds value into mid-game even as other hero slots are replaced by later-generation picks.

Bear Hunt rallies As of early 2026, Huntsman's Gift applies to Bear Hunt rally joiner marches, extending his Expedition value beyond solo beast hunts.

Crazy Joe Event Walis Bokan can reinforce alliance members in defensive situations during the Crazy Joe event. Tactical Deception's 20% enemy damage reduction provides meaningful defensive support, making him a usable option when primary defence heroes are occupied elsewhere.

Exploration His Exploration kit is functional but limited. Earthshake and Echoing Boost trigger together as a linked pair, delivering a 2-second burst of enemy Attack reduction and friendly Attack increase. Jungle-Born Agility provides a passive Attack Speed bonus throughout. This is a solid early contribution on Generation 1 servers but does not scale competitively into later generations.

Meta Assessment

Walis Bokan is a Generation 1 hero, and his ceiling reflects that. Newer-generation heroes progressively outpace him in stat ceilings and skill potency.

Generation 1 servers: One of your best available heroes for hunting and a workable Exploration contributor in the early game.

Generation 2+ servers: His Exploration role is typically replaced as higher-generation heroes with stronger or more scalable kits become available. Tactical Deception retains some Expedition utility for players who haven't yet replaced him, but this window narrows each generation.

Hunting specifically: Huntsman's Gift's value is structural rather than stat-based — march speed efficiency doesn't become obsolete the way combat figures do. This is why Walis Bokan tends to stay in hunting lineups longer than his Exploration role would suggest. For players who haven't pulled dedicated higher-generation hunting heroes, he is worth maintaining in that specific role.

The key threshold to watch: once you acquire a higher-generation hero with comparable or better Expedition march speed utility, evaluate replacing him in that slot. Until then, keep him active in your hunting lineup and deprioritise further Exploration skill investment.
