How to Increase March Capacity in Whiteout Survival [2026]
March capacity limits how many troops you can send. This guide covers every method to increase it — from research and heroes to buildings and VIP levels.
Part of the Progression Strategy Series:
- Command Center Guide: The primary building for capacity.
- Embassy Guide: The key prerequisite for Command Center upgrades.
- How to Increase Power Fast: Strategic overview of account growth.
Two systems, one common confusion
Before listing every source of capacity, it's worth pinning down what "March Capacity" actually means. The game tracks two completely separate numbers, and most player confusion around marches comes from conflating them:
- Troop Deployment Capacity (sometimes called "March Capacity" or "Troop Capacity") — the number of troops in a single march. This is what most players mean when they ask how to send a bigger army.
- March Queue — the number of marches you can have deployed simultaneously. You start with 1 and the game caps this at 6.
These have entirely different unlock paths. A bigger Command Center grows your Deployment Capacity. Different research and VIP rewards unlock additional March Queues. Increasing one does not affect the other.
Two more terms occasionally muddy the water:
- Rally Capacity — the total troops gatherable in a rally you initiate. The Command Center grows this in parallel with Deployment Capacity, but rally and deployment are independent ceilings.
- Formations — pre-saved army compositions in your dispatch screen. Formations are not March Queues. Adding a formation slot does not let you deploy more marches simultaneously.
Everything below focuses on Troop Deployment Capacity. There's a dedicated section at the end on March Queues.
The Command Center is the spine
The Command Center is the single largest source of Deployment Capacity in the game and the only one that scales continuously across your entire furnace journey. Every upgrade increases both Deployment Capacity and Rally Capacity together.
- Unlocks at Furnace Level 10.
- Gated by the Embassy. Your Embassy must match or exceed the Command Center level you're upgrading to. If you under-invest in the Embassy, the Command Center bottlenecks immediately. See the Embassy Guide for upgrade costs.
- Non-linear scaling. Early levels grant modest gains; later levels and Fire Crystal tiers grow more aggressively.
- At Level 30: 67,000 Troop Deployment Capacity and 840,000 Rally Capacity.
- Fire Crystal tiers extend this further. At FC1, capacity reaches approximately 70,500 deployment / 865,000 rally.
Practical implication: every time your Embassy can support another upgrade, the Command Center should be queued. There is no other building in the game that provides comparable Deployment Capacity gains per level. See our Command Center Guide for full level tables.
Research: Regimental Expansion (Battle tab)
The Research Center, unlocked at Furnace Level 9, contains the Regimental Expansion node in the Battle (Combat) tab. Each tier of this research raises the troops-per-march ceiling.
Any time a new Regimental Expansion tier becomes available, treat it as priority research on par with troop attack and defense nodes. It's one of the few research lines that directly raises a hard cap rather than a percentage modifier — which means it stacks cleanly with everything else and never becomes dead weight.
Chief Gear (Furnace 22+)
Chief Gear unlocks at Furnace 22 and becomes a meaningful Deployment Capacity source once you push gear into the higher rarities.
- Deployment Capacity from gear appears to begin at Red (Legendary) tier. Lower rarities provide stat bonuses but no documented capacity contribution.
- At Red T4 max: each piece grants approximately +1,200 Troop Deployment Capacity.
- Full 6-piece Red T4 set: approximately +7,200 Deployment Capacity total.
- Chief Charms slotted into gear add further Deployment Capacity.
For more on gear progression, see the Smithy Gear Crafting Guide.
Daybreak Island (Furnace 19+)
Daybreak Island opens at Furnace 19 via the Dock and provides two stacking permanent Deployment Capacity sources.
- Tree of Life. +1,000 Deployment Capacity at Level 2. +3,000 at Level 8. Requires Life Essence and Prosperity.
- Basic Dock decoration. +1,000 Deployment Capacity at maximum level.
Combined, Daybreak Island contributes up to +4,000 permanent Deployment Capacity. Check the Daybreak Island Guide for optimization tips.
Heroes contribute capacity directly
Leading marches with heroes raises Deployment Capacity. Sending no heroes results in a lower capacity than the same march led by heroes.
- Both hero level and star level matter. Higher level and higher star = more capacity contribution.
- The exact per-hero formula isn't publicly documented. What's verified is the direction: invest in hero level and star, and always lead marches with heroes when capacity matters.
Minister of Strategy (Sunfire Castle title)
The state's controlling alliance distributes government titles after each Castle Battle. Minister of Strategy grants:
- +2,500 Troop Deployment Capacity (normal)
- +3,750 Troop Deployment Capacity (when the title is boosted under a Supreme President)
Only one Minister of Strategy exists per state, and the title resets each State of Power cycle.
Temporary boosts (the buff stack)
When a key fight is coming — Bear Hunt, Frostfire Mine, Canyon, State vs State — temporary buffs let you exceed your normal ceiling for a defined window.
- Deployment Capacity Boost item. +10% Deployment Capacity for 2 hours. Acquired from events, packs, and shop rotations.
- Snow Ape pet — "Tumbling Power" skill. +15,000 squad capacity for 2 hours on activation.
- Iron Rhino pet — "Rallying Beast" skill. +150,000 Rally Capacity for 2 hours.
Pre-fight activation sequence for a major event:
- Several hours before — confirm your Snow Ape skill is off cooldown.
- 5–10 minutes before engagement — activate the Deployment Capacity Boost item (+10% for 2 hours).
- Just before deploying — activate Snow Ape "Tumbling Power" (+15,000 for 2 hours).
Bear Hunt has its own capacity expert
Bear Hunt mechanics partially diverge from standard combat. The Cyrille expert (Bear Huntress) provides Bear Hunt-specific scaling:
- Ursa's Bane skill — Bear Hunt Troop Deployment Capacity (up to +30,000).
- Entrapment skill — Bear Hunt Rally Capacity (up to +300,000).
These apply only during Bear Hunt.
March Queue: how many simultaneous marches?
Separate system, separate sources. March Queue starts at 1 and caps at 6.
- Command Tactics research (Growth tab). Each tier of Command Tactics unlocks additional March Queue slots.
- VIP levels. VIP also unlocks March Queue slots. Pushing VIP into the 6+ range is standard for unlocking additional queues.
- VIP must be active. Earned VIP level matters only while VIP status is paid-up. See the VIP Level Guide for details.
Queue × Capacity = total deployable force
Capacity per march matters only as one half of the equation. Total deployable force in any fight is:
Total Force = March Queues × Deployment Capacity per March
- At 3–4 queues, Command Tactics research is often higher-leverage than another Command Center level. Each new queue is a 25–33% increase to total force.
- At 5–6 queues, per-march capacity becomes the leverage point.
Worked example: stacking everything
A Furnace 30 player with serious investment, sending a solo march during an event:
| Source | Contribution |
|---|---|
| Command Center Level 30 (base) | 67,000 |
| Chief Gear Red T4 full set | +7,200 |
| Tree of Life Level 8 | +3,000 |
| Basic Dock (maxed) | +1,000 |
| Minister of Strategy (normal) | +2,500 |
| Permanent subtotal | ~80,700 |
| Snow Ape skill (active) | +15,000 |
| Deployment Capacity Boost item (+10%) | ~+8,070 |
| Total during buff window | ~103,770 |
Common Mistakes
- Under-investing in the Embassy. Your Command Center cannot exceed your Embassy level.
- Ignoring the Regimental Expansion research. This is one of the few ways to increase the hard cap on troops per march for free.
- Mistiming temporary buffs. Ensure your 10% boost and Snow Ape skill are active before you dispatch your march.
- Confusing Formation slots with March Queues. Buying a formation slot does not let you send an extra march.
