Whiteout Survival Research Center Guide [2026] — All Levels & Priority
The Research Center is the single most important long-term building in Whiteout Survival. While heroes and gear provide immediate power, research provides the permanent foundation that multiplies every other stat in your account.

Quick Reference Card
| Topic | Answer |
|---|---|
| Unlock | Furnace Level 9 |
| Building Levels | 1 → 30 → FC Tiers (FC1 to FC4+) |
| Tabs | Growth · Economy · Battle |
| Active Queue | One project at a time (strict single-thread) |
| Building Bonus | ~+0.1% speed (L1) to ~+3.0% speed (L30) |
| Resources | Wood, Coal, Iron, Meat, Steel, Fire Crystals (FC) |
TL;DR
- Never let the queue go idle. An 8-hour overnight idle is a 33% loss in daily throughput. Always queue something before bed.
- Sequence beats speed. Since you only have one queue, what you research first matters more than how fast you finish it.
- Sync with Furnace: Several Furnace upgrades (like Lv. 16) require specific Research Center levels. Keep them within one level of each other.
Queue Throughput Math
Research is a race against time. Because the queue is single-threaded, your throughput is capped at 24 hours of research per day plus any speedups used.
The Cost of Idle Time
Suppose your current projects take ~24 hours each:
- 2 hours idle: ~8% daily throughput loss.
- 8 hours idle: ~33% daily throughput loss.
- 1 overnight idle per week: ~5% of your annual research potential lost.
Speedup Efficiency Rule
Never apply a speedup that exceeds the remaining research duration. A 60-minute speedup on a 30-minute project wastes 30 minutes of speedup value. Match your speedups to the timer.
Building Upgrade Costs
| Level | Wood | Meat | Coal | Iron | Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ~105 | — | — | — | ~2 sec |
| 15 | ~1.5M | ~1.5M | ~300k | ~75k | ~1d 12h |
| 30 | ~120M | ~120M | ~24M | ~6M | ~6 days |
Fire Crystal (FC) Era
Post-Lv. 30, Fire Crystals become the primary gate.
- FC1 → FC1.1: ~71 FC, ~36M Wood/Meat, ~1.8M Iron.
- FC4 → FC4.1: ~150 FC, ~42M Wood/Meat, ~2.1M Iron.
[!CAUTION] Revert Refund: Reverting an FC upgrade only returns 50% of the Fire Crystals. Plan your FC tiers carefully.
Research Priority Framework
Phase 1: Foundation (Furnace 9–15)
Focus: 60% Economy / 30% Growth / 10% Battle. Prioritize Tool Enhancement (Research Speed) and Tooling Up (Construction Speed). These compound across every project for the next year.
Phase 2: Acceleration (Furnace 15–26)
Focus: 40% Growth / 35% Economy / 25% Battle. Start pushing Gathering Speed and March Queues. You need more resource throughput to fund the massive construction costs ahead.
Phase 3: Specialization (Furnace 26+)
Focus: 45% Battle / 30% Growth / 25% Economy. Percentage-based combat stats (Attack/Defense/HP) become the dominant variable. Match your research to your highest-tier troops.
Decision Tree: "What should I research next?"
Before clicking "Research," run this checklist:
- Furnace Gate: Does my next Furnace level require this research? (Priority #1)
- Unlock Gate: Does this node unlock a new branch of the tree? (Priority #2)
- Event Timing: Is there a research-scoring event today? (Use speedups now)
- Idle Prevention: Will this project finish while I'm awake? (If not, pick a longer one)
Common Pitfalls
- Lagging the Research Center: Falling 3+ levels behind your Furnace will block your progression at critical gates (like Furnace 16 and 22).
- Researching Ahead of Troop Tier: Buffing T9 troops while you still have T7s is zero combat benefit. Match tech to your active units.
- Wasting Speedups on Short Tech: Don't burn 1-hour speedups to finish a 15-minute tech. Wait for alliance helps.
