Experts are a separate progression layer from heroes, and they quietly power up some of the most valuable parts of your account — Intel Missions, Bear Hunt, alliance events, and rally strength. They're also one of the most confusing systems for new players because they're tied to Tundra Trek, Frontier Trek, and the Dawn Academy. This guide untangles all of it and tells you which Experts to chase first.

How to Unlock Experts

Experts unlock at Furnace Level 25. From there, you recruit them through two "Trek" modes:

Tundra Trek — the steady, story-driven mode where you meet Experts and progress their storylines. This is your starting lane.
Frontier Trek — a faster lane with boosted unlocks, available after you complete 60 Tundra Trek encounters. Here you can pick which Expert's storyline to push.

To make an Expert actually join your city, you raise their Affinity (through gifts and trek progress) until you hit the unlock threshold — commonly cited at 1,000 Affinity — while following their storyline encounters.

💡 "Trek" = Experts. If you've searched for the Whiteout Survival "Trek" — Tundra Trek and Frontier Trek are the Expert recruitment modes, not a separate combat event. Registration/participation prompts you see are part of these Expert treks.

Trek Supplies (The Currency)

Treks run on supplies:

Trek Supplies: Claim 10 free at set times; you can also spend 1,000 gems for 5 supplies, up to 5 times per day.
Frontier Supplies: Claim 10 free when the mode unlocks, buy from the VIP Shop, or earn them in the Endless Wayfarer event.

Claim the free supplies daily — they're the backbone of F2P expert progress.

The Dawn Academy & Books of Knowledge

Once your first Expert joins, you unlock the Dawn Academy — the building where you learn and upgrade Expert skills. Skill learning costs Books of Knowledge plus speedups. Books of Knowledge are the key upgrade material, so funnel them into whichever Expert's skills give you the best return (see priorities below).

⚠️ Don't over-invest in Romulus too early. His ceiling is high, but for F2P accounts the resource cost delays the higher-ROI experts that pay you back every single day.
