Chief Charms are one of the highest-impact — and most resource-hungry — power systems in Whiteout Survival. They sit on top of your Chief Gear and buff every troop on every march, but the upgrade economy is unforgiving, so a clear plan matters. This guide covers how charms are structured, what materials they need, the all-important Level 11 breakpoint, and the upgrade order that converts your materials into the most power (and SvS points).

What Are Chief Charms?

Chief Charms are gem-like enhancements that slot into your Chief Gear, adding stat bonuses that stack and scale with the gear's base stats. They unlock at Furnace Level 25.

💡 Gear first, charms second. Because charm stats multiply with the gear they sit on, a high-level charm on weak gear is wasted potential. Keep your Chief Gear moving and treat charms as the layer on top.

The 18 Charm Slots

There are 6 Chief Gear pieces, each with 3 charm slots — 18 charms in total. The slots are grouped by the troop type the gear buffs:

The Level & Sub-Level System

Charms upgrade from Level 1 to Level 16. From Level 4 onward, each major level is broken into sub-levels:

Levels 4–10: 4 sub-levels each (e.g., 4 → 4.1 → 4.2 → 4.3 → 5).
Level 11 and up: 5 sub-levels each (e.g., 10 → 10.1 → 10.2 → 10.3 → 10.4 → 11).

This means the cost-per-major-level climbs steeply as you go, which is exactly why upgrade order matters so much.

Upgrade Materials

Three materials drive charm upgrades:

Charm Guides — the most-consumed material. You will always be short on these, so farm them hardest.
Charm Designs — needed alongside Guides, but in smaller quantities.
Jewel Secrets — only required from Level 12 onward, and the rarest charm material in the game.

You earn these from events, daily tasks, the Arena, alliance sources, and charm-focused packs.

The Level 11 Breakpoint (Most Important Tip)

Push every charm to Level 11 before going higher on any single one. Two reasons:

Material Exchange unlocks at Level 11. Once any charm hits Lv.11, you unlock the Chief Charm Materials Exchange, which lets you convert surplus materials into the ones you're short on — a massive efficiency gain.
Jewel Secrets start at Level 12. Below Level 12 you only spend Guides and Designs, so Levels 1–11 are the "cheap" portion of the curve. Get all 18 charms through that band before committing the rare Jewel Secrets to a few slots.

Best Charm Upgrade Order

Keep all 18 charms balanced. Even, broad levels beat a couple of maxed charms with the rest left low — balanced stats give better all-round combat performance.
Get everything to Level 11 first (unlocks the Exchange, stays cheap on materials).
Then push past Level 12 where it matters most for your playstyle, feeding Jewel Secrets into the troop type you actually deploy.
Always upgrade gear in parallel so charms keep multiplying against rising base stats.

Charm Upgrades and SvS Points

Charm progress is one of the most reliable ways to score in State vs State and similar events — community testing puts it around ~70 SvS points per charm score point. Bank your materials and upgrade during scoring windows: State vs State, King of Icefield, Officer/Armament events, and Alliance Mobilization. Spending charms outside these windows leaves a lot of free points on the table.
